To negotiate with the clients in the civil works, two techniques can be used. 1. Negotiation with the client can be based on the needs of the customers instead of considering their demand. This technique is also known as “interest based”. As the civil work focuses on the interest of the clients, this is effective in providing a positive relationship with the developer and customers. 2. Use of “BATNA analysis” can help to identify the best alternative for the work and encourage clients to agree with the negotiation (Medvec, 2021). Clear understanding of the best alternative helps in positive negotiation considering benefits of both parties.

20) How do you collaborate and negotiate with clients and key external stakeholders in civil construction and design?

In civil construction work, matters like design must be agreed from the clients and all the stakeholders of the project. During the collaboration of the work with the clients and stakeholders factors like proper listening, transparency, updates, compromising and flexibility are used (Engebø et al., 2020). Listening helps to understand all the points of the clients and stakeholders related to work. Transparency helps in making the activities and construction design details clear for everyone. Use of updates on a daily basis helps others to understand the progress of work and create trust. Use of flexibility helps to consider the demands of the clients and stakeholders sudden preferences.
