Assessment Task

Prepare a 5-minute presentation identifying aspects of a topic given to you by the Learning Facilitator. Please refer to the Instructions for details on how to complete this task.

Context

In this subject, the you have been introduced to the concepts of business communication and transferrable academic skills. This assessment requires you to have a well-formed view of effective business communication, the importance and use of technology, and to apply their communication skills to deliver a compelling speech. In addition, this assessment requires you to develop competencies in video and audio presentation techniques.

Instructions

1. Prepare a 5-minute presentation identifying aspects of a topic decided by the Learning Facilitator. Describe the aspects, provide examples and practical recommendations.

2. Your presentation should address the following questions, along with any other relevant points:

• What does the topic look like?

• Which characteristics make it effective?

• How does the effectiveness affect theoutcome?

• How can the use of technology improve communication?

• In an organisational environment, when would you likely use presentation skills?

• What is the main conclusion(s) of your presentation?

3. In the presentation, you are required to:

• Introduce yourself

• Describe aspects of the topic

• Provide examples and practical recommendations on how to succeed. Please deliver your presentation in a compelling manner with clarity, conciseness, andconcreteness

• Provide a conclusion.

• Please use at least 4 in-text citations.

• Include a reference list using APA 7thstyle on a separatepage

4. Preparing the presentation

Face-to-face students should present their findings using 5-10 PowerPoint slides or Prezi. Online students may use visual aids in their video but should address the audience directly paying attention to audio quality, lighting quality, sincerity of presentation, clarity of your perspective, and overall impact. The presentation be in video format (mp4, MOV, etc.)

5. You are strongly advised to read the rubric, which is an evaluation guide with criteria for grading your assignment—this will give you a clear picture of what a successful presentation looks like.

Topic and Which characteristics make it effective?

Exchange of information between employees and those outside the company is what we call "business communication. By facilitating the exchange of information between internal stakeholders and external stakeholders, businesses may better reach their ultimate mission. (Guffey & Loewy, 2022). 

The culture of an organisation may be seen in its members' self-perceptions, their inner workings, their interactions in the outside world, and their aspirations for the future which encompasses the expectations, experiences, philosophy, and values that govern the conduct of members. As per the MBA Assignment Experts Overview, Recognized norms of behaviour are established through time and are founded on common values, customs, and rules (both explicit and implicit). These behavioral expectations serve as the cornerstone on which a culture is built (Guirdham & Guirdham, 2017).

How does the effectiveness affect the outcome?

Every business relies on effective communication, and it's one of the most important factors in building a successful enterprise. The ability to effectively communicate in a business setting is crucial to one's professional development, productivity, and happiness on the job (Ferraro & Brody, 2015).

Communication that is in line with the values of the firm may help employees treat one another with dignity and respect on the job. Everyone associated with the firm, whether directly or indirectly, may better comply with corporate rules and procedures when they are communicated to and understood by all employees. It's important for businesses to steer clear of team strife and false information (Samovar et al., 2016). A strong corporate culture promotes the well-being of a company by ensuring that all employees and other people associated with it are treated with decency and respect regardless of their gender or religious beliefs. Each of the four modes of human communication—verbal, nonverbal, spoken, written, and aural—contributes to the success of a commercial transaction (Guirdham & Guirdham, 2017).

How can the use of technology improve communication?

A videoconferencing programme allows business to have weekly meetings with your staff even if some of them can't be there in person. Whether you choose to utilise Zoom, Google Meet, or the other videoconferencing technology, firm be able to keep your team's processes constant and less likely to be interrupted by a remote worker.  It's also great for geographically dispersed teams (Cornelissen, 2020).

SMS using a mobile device could be used to delegate work and check up on workers' progress. A company manager, for instance, may send a text to on-call employees to check in on the status of an ongoing work and see if any help is required (Doorley & Garcia, 2015). 

Incorporating a scheduling system into firm can help to increase productivity across the board, which in turn will increase the income by enabling to take on more work. Using a scheduling system, managers can directly communicate within the departments for any doubts and thus it leads to improve decision making (Johnson & Johnson, 2013). 

In an organizational environment, when would you likely use presentation skills?

A leader's ability to motivate their team and an entrepreneur's ability to get finance both depend on their respective presenting abilities. It's impossible to do business without effective communication. When people are able to effectively communicate with one another, careers flourish and profits increase.
Effective presenting abilities have other favorable effects in the workplace, including the following.
Successful interviews are the result of open dialogue between the interviewer and the interviewee. Growth and revenue in a business cannot be achieved without first establishing effective teams. Important choices and promising careers are created in meetings, whether they take the form of a phone conversation, a sales pitch, or an in-person talk (Sketch bubble, 2018).

Networking Events

Building network is essential to career's growth and development. People who are skilled presenters tend to leave a favorable impression on others.

Interaction with Customers

Establishing genuine connections with customers is crucial to the success of any company, and this calls for a natural talent for conversation. Communicating your brand's values and mission to consumers is a great way to earn their trust and devotion (Sketch bubble, 2018).

Attending and Presenting at Conferences

If employee wants to be recognized as an industry expert, employee need to provide invaluable knowledge while motivating followers. A company's success in reaching prospective consumers and inspiring them to take action depends on the quality of its presenters.

What is the main conclusion(s) of your presentation?

There is a deep and intricate relationship between the two of these pillars of society, which are communication and culture. To begin, norms, roles, rules, rituals, laws, and other cultural patterns are developed and disseminated via many forms of human contact, the most important of which is communication. When humans engage in groups, organisations, or communities, they aren't always trying to build a particular culture. The "waste" of human interaction is culture. Cultures can't be maintained and passed down from one generation to the next from one location to another unless there's some way for people to communicate and share their knowledge and experiences.

Recommendation

Contract negotiations, manufacturing processes, sourcing of products, marketing strategies, and personnel choices are just few of the many facets of business communications. The pace of talks, the amount of politeness between business partners, and the preference for subtle vs frank communication about money are all examples of cultural preferences in the business world. 

The corporate cultures comprise of people working from different countries that create differences in culture and language. In order to effectively communicate with partners from various locations, it is important to first have an understanding of their cultural norms and beliefs. Thus, it could be recommended to have the common language in which the employees would communicate with each other.
