Assessment Task

Select 10 resources on a topic related to communication and write a 1500-word annotated bibliography summarizing the central theme and scope of the resources. Please refer to the Instructions for details on how to complete this task.

Instructions

1. A topic related to communication will be given to you by your Learning Facilitator in Module 1.1. The selected topic will be posted in the Announcements section in Blackboard. This topic will form the basis for research for Assessment 1 Part A, Assessment 1 Part B, Assessment 2 and Assessment 3.

2. Apply your research skills to identify, select and analyse resources related to the topic.  Locate resources (books, periodicals, white papers and other documents) that may contain useful information and ideas on the issue.

3. Briefly examine and review the resources and select 10 that represent a variety of perspectives on the topic.

4. Write an annotation of 150 words for each resource, summarizing its’ central theme and scope. The annotation should:
• evaluate the authority or background of the author
• comment on the intended audience
• compare and contrast this work with another you have cited 
• explain how this work inform your topic

5. Please note that the issue and resources used in Assessment 1 Part A will also form the basis for Assessment 1 Part B.

6. When writing the annotated bibliography, you are required to:
• Include a title page with student details (i.e. student name, ID number, subject code & name, assessment number and title).
• Use at least 1 in-text citation per annotation.  
• Adhere to the word limit of 1500 words.

Solution

Introduction

The report analyses the importance of communication in the business world. Further, the conflict is resolved when the communication process is followed effectively. The article presented by different authors focuses on conflict resolution with continuous communication with the employees. As per the MBA Assignment Expert, Gender differences and mergers in the organisation are sometimes the reason for stress and lead to conflict. The report aims to focus on reducing conflict at the workplace with the help of proper communication.

The authors of this article have a background in industrial relations and business management. The article is intended to the employees of an organization. In this article, the authors have found out that emotional intelligence quotient is directly linked with conflicts. The study has showed how effective communication is a conflict resolution mechanism. Therefore, communication helps in the mediation of the problems thereby, reducing the intensity of the conflict (Dialoke& Larry, 2019). This article is relevant as the authors in this article have based their research and the outcome of the conflict on the emotional quotient of the people. It is also different from others as Bijnen, (2019) has stated that gender and age are the factors that results in conflict. Dialoke& Larry, (2019), in this article stressed on emotional quotient which can be the outcome of gender and age however, there are other biological factors as well which constitutes the emotional quotient of the people.

Author of the article from the University of Suceava emphases the use of special terminology for intending the special messages with the employees (Oana, 2020, p. 87). Oana, (2020) has just discussed about effective communication in this article however, it is not as specified as the discussion led by Raddall, (2019) where a specified Helix model for communication has been specified. The article is relevant to the topic as the authors have stressed on effective communication with all employees that is essential for conflict resolution.

Hierarchy structures in the organisation are prevalent nowadays.The intended audience of this research is the top-level management of the companies. The top-level management and the power used by the seniors create a reason for conflict in the organisation. Gender or age is sometimes the factor for workplace conflict (Bijnen, 2019, p. 88). In this article the author has emphasized on seniority being one of the reasons of conflict whereas in the article of Wojtacka et al., (2020), the animal rights issue is being hailed as the reason of the conflict.

The intended audience of the article is veterinarians. The conflict arises with the nongovernmental institutes to fight for animal rights. Veterinarians are often found debating on the issues regarding the genetically modified organisms that are affecting the health of the animals/organisms (Wojtacka et al., 2020, p. 2). The conflict arises due to the responsibility of the veterinarian to protect the animals from being genetically modified. Further, the article emphasises the importance of communication skills required for the negotiation process. Wojtacka et al., (2020) has emphasized on veterinarians being the reason behind the conflict whereas in the article of Dialoke& Larry, (2019), the emotional quotient has been studied.

The article focuses on the importance of internal communication within the organisation. Internal communication is the communication between the employees to achieve the organisational goal. Further, the article suggests that the organisation's success depends on the organisation's communication strategy (Elena, 2019, p. 163). Training and research work organised as part of the communication campaign helps in enhancing individual skills. Although the report discusses the benefit of a communication campaign, the author can also include the plan for organising the campaign. This will help the individuals or organisations implement the training sessions to enhance the skill. Further, the employees will benefit as enhanced skills will help improve their work performance. Elena, (2019) has emphasized the need of communication to achieve the goals of the organization whereas, Bijnen (2019) has emphasized on how communication can end conflicts.

The authors have a background on the human and community development. The intended audience of the article is the stakeholders of an organization. Article presented by Lotz & Donald (2019), states that the organisational change due to mergers and acquisitions increases the stress among the employees resulting in conflicts. Further, the article focuses on the communication that occurred during the acquisition process. Communication with the employee helps to reduce the stress and encourages to increase the performance. Proper communication from the top management about job security after the merger helps to reduce the stress among the employees. Lotz& Donald (2019), in this article have emphasized on mergers and acquisitions being the reason behind problems whereas, Wojtacka et al., (2020), in their article has spoken about how animal rights issues can create conflict in a veterinarian organization. This article is important as the authors suggest that the negotiation process must be a win-win process for both the parties involved in the conflict. Mediators of the conflict resolution process must effectively design the solution and encourage constructive communication between the two parties.

This study focuses on the importance of communication to create trust among the shareholders and obtain legitimacy within the organisation. Communication should be organised and must follow a proper channel to ensure the accuracy of the message. Random communication in the organisation leads to poor performance and creates misunderstanding among the employees (Camilo et., 2020, p. 568). Further, the author emphasises the benefit of having open communication in the organisation. Conflict is reduced within the organisation when every employee is encouraged to participate in decision-making. In this article, the authors have discussed about random communication resulting in problems whereas, in the article by Elena, (2019), it has been stated that communication is the way to reach goals.

Employee unions are responsible to reduce the conflict between the employee and the employer and this enhances the performance of the employee. The article further analyses the importance of industrial relationships that helps in promoting healthy relationships in the industry (Ugo &Awulika, 2020, p. 495). One of the main objectives of this article is to promote industrial peace which reduces the level of conflict within the industry.The authors have specified how employee union can solve conflicts implying specifications, however, Elena, (2019) has stated about communication only.

The author has a background on the healthcare systems. The audience intended are the healthcare employees. Article presented by Benjamin (2019, p. 4), emphasises that the conflict coaches try to reduce the conflict immediately without focusing on the systematic approach of the conflict. The elimination of conflict helps the conflict coaches to reach the endpoint in reducing the conflict. Further, the author focuses on the coaching process that is used for conflict resolution. The problem-solving coaching model focuses on and develops the communication strategy. This helps the employee/client to understand the conflict resolution process and gain conflict resolution skills in the process. The authors have specified the issue to the healthcare employees whereas, Lotz& Donald (2019), has specified conflict resolution technique about stakeholders in general.

The author has a background on the organizational communication and performance, discusses that conflict in the organisation can take place due to inadequate communication and competition. Article further emphases on the Helix model that would help the organisation to develop the guideline for communication (Raddall, 2019, p. 235). This helps the organisation to bring the change in resolving the conflict in the organisation. Hence, it can be stated using the Helix model that assists in an effective communication, people can resolve conflicts in the organization. In this article, Raddall, (2019) has specified a method to communicate whereas Dialoke& Larry, (2019) has not specified such technique and rather asked the people to communicate which might not be as efficient as the way Raddall, (2019) has discussed.

Conclusion

The report analyses the importance of communication in resolving the conflict between the employee and the employer. Using the proper keyword will help reduce proper communication and reduce conflict. The report concludes that business communication is important to create a healthy environment and further helps in conflict resolution.
